In August 16, 2015, the First FUDA Medical Humanity-oriented Seminar with the theme of Life and Death opened in Fuda Cancer Hospital. It was hosted by Guangzhou Fuda Cancer Hospital and co-sponsored by Yangcheng Evening News, DXY, and YCWB.

Over 40 renowned medical experts and writers from Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam presented in the seminar. Also presented are cancer patients that have been saved by FUDA from the verge of death and cancer patients from Guangdong Provincial Light of Life Society for Cancer Rehabilitation. Media such as Guangming Daily from Malaysia, Takungpao from Hong Kong, Guangdong TV, Yangcheng Evening News, DXY, and YCWB also presented and did follow-up report.

Gu Zuoyi, Deputy Director of Guangdong Provincial Publicity Department and Civic Enhancement Office of Guangdong Province, sent a congratulatory letter for the opening of the seminar. He believed that the value of life “people-oriented” means putting people first, respect people, affirm people and care about people. Fuda Cancer Hospital has always done very well in providing humanistic care for patient.

With the theme of “Life and Death”, this seminar was designed to discuss the value and transformation of life and death and illustrate such concepts as “living with caner”, “cancer is a type of controllable chronic disease” and “death cannot be eliminated but can be delayed”.

During the seminar, several videos were played, including “Love Give Me a New Life”, “Help” by Pearl River Channel and “A Fairy Tale across Thousands of Miles” by CCTV. These videos told several patients’ stories about their fight against cancer, living with cancer and gaining a new life in Fuda Cancer Hospital. Also presented are Peng Ximei, once a giant ovarian cancer patient from Zhanjiang, Han Bingbing, a 12-year-old girl with abdominal teratoma from Hei Longjiang, Mo Xiaofeng, once a malignant papillary pancreatic carcinoma patient from Huaiji, Gurli, a patient with pancreatic cancer and liver metastases from Denmark.

Peng Ximei and Gurli talked about their feeling with presented guests on the stage.

Ximei said emotionally, “FUDA saved my life in 2009. I would like to commit myself, like President Xu, to being a good person and doing good deeds for the rest of my life. I would like to share my experience with those cancer patients on the verge of death to encourage them to live on with confidence and courage”. Gurli said, “FUDA give me the opportunity to gain a new life. FUDA is my second home. Coming back to FUDA for CIC has become an annual event”.

Prof. Li Chaolong, the honorary President, chief expert in surgery of Fuda Cancer Hospital and the founder of Modern China Medicine, discussed about what doctor should do when patient is on the verge of death with the example whether one should save people from drowning. He said, “I will definitely do something to save patient. As long as I think of my patient, I would abandon all these worries. Any hesitation will cause the death of a patient”. Prof. Li also illustrated many of his patients with giant tumors. With Modern China Medicine, Prof. Li has treated many difficult miscellaneous diseases. After treatment, three brothers with liver cancer, malignant lymphoma patient, patient with lung cancer and multiple bone metastases have all survived over 10 years.

Dr. Niu Lizhi, President of Fuda Cancer Hospital and Vice President of Asian Society of Cryosurgery, introduced the latest technology for cancer in FUDA-Nanoknife therapy (irreversible electroporation). Different from other conventional ablation technologies, Nanoknife therapy could ablate tumor close to big vessels, nerves and important organs. It will induce cell apoptosis by inflicting irreversible damage to tumor cell so as to promote the regeneration and repair of normal tissue. Guangzhou Fuda Cancer Hospital is the first in mainland of China to have introduced this technology and have successfully carried out Nanoknife treatment for pancreatic and liver cancer patients.

The second section of the seminar was a symposium for writers and friends from media, which was presided by Zhong Zimei, senior vice chairman and sectary-general of Hong Kong Institute of Prose and prose writer of Hong Kong.

Among them, the air formations in the parade are one of the highlights. The number of jets involved hit an all-time record.
